Discard Evidence / Present Evidence (証拠の廃棄 / 証拠の提示, lit. Disposal of Evidence / Presentation of Evidence) is Phoenix Wright's side special move.

Overview

While in Courtroom Mode, Phoenix will throw away a piece of evidence currently sitting in his Court Record, causing it to travel forward in a small arc as a projectile. This move prioritizes throwing away any bad evidence that Phoenix is holding, but if he has none upon using the move, he will throw away the evidence he picked up last. If Phoenix has no evidence in his Court Record upon using this move, he will thrust his hand forward as if presenting something, but become dejected upon realizing he has nothing in his hand before returning to his idle pose.

If Phoenix is in Turnabout Mode, he instead presents a piece of evidence from his Court Record, shouting "Evidence for the court!". Each piece of evidence Phoenix can collect has its own projectile, and he can choose which one to present via additional inputs. Upon inputting side special, pressing up on the control stick fires the projectile associated with the evidence in the first slot in the Court Record, pressing down fires the projectile from the evidence in the third slot, and no additional input fires the projectile from the second slot. Below is a list of all the good evidence Phoenix can find, and its associated projectile.

Cell phone		Three small projectiles spawn in front of Phoenix, and pause for a second before homing in on the nearest enemy.
Photograph		Three projectiles are fired rapidly in a line in front of Phoenix.
Watch		A single projectile fires out quickly from Phoenix's hand.
Knife		Three projectiles fire out. One travels straight forward, one travels diagonally upwards, and one travels diagonally downwards.
Flower vase		A single projectile is lobbed into the air, where it travels in an arc.
Autopsy report		A single projectile spawns in a semi-random spot in front of Phoenix, where it hovers in place for a couple seconds before exploding. It also explodes if an opponent makes contact with it.
Maya Plush		A large purple projectile shoots out, travelling slowly in front of Phoenix. This projectile hits multiple times, and explodes at the end of its life.

The Court Record and the evidence it holds are vital parts of Ace Attorney's gameplay, as presenting evidence stored within in court is the way in which the player helps make their case. Discarding evidence is done rather scarcely, and is usually used by the games as a way to indicate that a certain piece of evidence is no longer relevant to the case at hand, so the player doesn't feel the need to present it to anyone any further.
